Took a little longer than I originally promised but Alabaster is finally done, much thanks to Happyscans! Tezuka's comment in the afterword was originally what sparked my interest in translating this manga so do read that as well. It's a shame Tezuka had so little confidence in this story, since I think the only real flaw was that the short 2-volume length didn't give enough time for both the plot and characters to develop at an appropriate pace. Feel free to let me know what you thought of the story and if you're in the mood for more Tezuka, head over to Happyscans who've done some more Tezuka stuff, including the seminal Treasure Island.

Thanks for the volume. I'll make sure to give feedback once I finished it.
ReplyDeleteAnd I've been meaning to ask you for a long time now: Will you scan more from Taniguchi or Tatsumi? Summit of the Gods or A Drifting Live deserve to be read by more people.
You do realize that both of those series are licensed, don't you? If you're unwilling to buy the English versions, go ask some scans-only group to pick them up.
DeleteI'm not from an English speaking country. I just noticed the lack of scanlations.
DeleteThanks for the information.
Awesome, thanks Hox!
ReplyDeleteI just love these elder :P mangas :P.
ReplyDeleteThank you so much :)
Thanks, Hox!
ReplyDeleteAre you going to be working on Zero next?
I would but I still haven't seen any raws for the new volume online yet...
Deleteit is over? oh well it was good while it lasted, even if short.
ReplyDeleteHi Hox. I know this request has been up already, but why not to try again?
ReplyDeleteAs you're waiting for 'Zero' raws, could you think about Asano 'Umibe no Onnanoko'? You could release it-for example-on a basis that if Kotonoha release it as well one day, you'll remove yours.
More and more groups are picking up projects left by them..
Also-do you know what is the status of Punpun in Big Comic Spirits magazine right now? It was on a one month hiatus, as far as I know?
Regards
The answer is still a no, considering that I'm already busy with several other projects aside from Zero and Kotonoha's eventually going to do it anyways.
DeleteAs for Punpun, I'm not up-to-date on its status but I think the hiatus has ended.
Hi Hox, thanks for reply. I know I'm a bother, but somehow I can't help it. I feel hopelessly addicted to Asano works ;) He's got a rare ability to capture elusive. Like a... music ;)
DeleteRegards
Hey Hox, the name's John and I'm a long time Osamu Tezuka fan and I'd like to personally thank you for Alabaster's translation. I've been exposed to mostly Astro Boy and BlackJack, but I'm so happy that people such as you take the time out to translate and share those rare works which have yet to surface here in the US.
ReplyDeleteThere's actually been a string a recent Osamu Tezuka manga translations and it's been great so far since I've been able to read some of his other great works like "Castle of Dawn.
Fuck yeah! another Tezuka manga to read! Thank you so much!!
