Zero Updates

Just a small update: There's no Vinland Saga or Historie this month. Also, good news and bad news for Samura fans. I've decided not to do Sister Generator because I was recently informed that it had already been licensed and published by Dark Horse under the title Hiroaki Samura's Emerald and Other Stories only two months ago. So if you're a Samura fan, I'd suggest you go buy it.

Also, if you haven't heard, Gyanki-Hen is ending with its 9th volume (to be released May 17). Considering how many things there are to cover in the storyline, I'd assume this isn't the actual end yet and there will be a part 3. However, considering how Fukumoto plans to start Kaiji Part 5 this June, I'm not sure when he'll get back to Zero. Let's just hope the hiatus isn't as long as it was last time... In other news, I still don't see raws for either volume 7 or 8 for Zero. If anybody's willing to buy and scan the volumes themselves, please do let me know beforehand.

Oh and lastly, if there're any translators looking for some interesting projects to do, Happyscans is looking for someone to translate Sukeban Deka, Wolf Guy (the 90s version), and Azumi. Personally, I'm not much of a fan of the Wolf Guy franchise, but I think Sukeban Deka and Azumi are projects that should definitely be translated eventually. In any case, head over to Happyscans for more details, whether or not you're a translator, since they're picking up a lot of other interesting projects at the moment.

  4. Please Hox, translate more Ashita no Joe. This is one of the best series that I've seen, and there's been nothing released since early March. =(

    1. New chapter's out. Sorry for the long break. First I was preoccupied with other things for about 3 weeks and then my editor was busy the past 2 weeks but I think we're back on track now. Chapter 3 should hopefully come later this week.

  6. Already bought and read Samura's short story collection. The titular Emerald is easily the best oneshot he created so far; the rest of the book isn't very impressive IMHO (except for the story of unhealthy relationship between a schoolgirl and her father, which I found even more haunting that Brigitte's Dinner for some reason). Yet any of these pieces is still considerably better than the weird and seemingly pointless staff Samura has been drawing for Rakuen Le Paradis magazine lately (at least three other stories published in 2012-2013 haven't been translated and I do not weep for them). Pity that Halcyon Lunch takes so long to get picked either by a licensing company or by scanlators though. It looks like a pretty upbeat manga, especially in contrast with BotI.

  7. No chance to do Beageruta instead? No one picked that one AFAIK.

    1. try Amazon Japan

just be sure to search it under it's original title (賭博覇王伝 零 ギャン鬼編) instead of the Romaji/translated one

    1. They've all been taken down so you'll just have to rely on mangatraders or some other site.

  10. I'm just curious, how did you hear about part 5 of Kaiji? Google turns up nothing, I'd really like to know where I can read the latest news about Fukumoto's projects.

I do believe Hox is referring to this announcement http://www.animenewsnetwork.com/news/2013-04-22/kaiji-gambling-manga-to-resume-after-14-month-break

    2. That's not part 5 though, just the continuation of Part 4 (Kazuya-Hen).

    1. Holy shit, it's real. I remember Fukumoto saying that Kurosawa didn't really have to die in some interview but I wasn't sure if he was being serious. I guess he was.

    2. Hox, you definitely should pick Shin Kurosawa up once it comes out, before some noob group with bad translations and/or sporadic release schedule picks it up!

    2. I picked it up from a local bookstore and they didn't have 8 in stock. I'll be checking again this month, but it seems like someone else is working on ordering a copy as well.

    3. Oh thank you! I'll get it translated as soon as you send me scans then.
